Cancer In Cambodia
Cancer In Women
Breast and cervical cancer are the 1st and 2nd most common cancers in women in Cambodia. Actual numbers of cases are difficult to calculate at this time. Estimated data on incidence is derived from neighboring countries.
By some estimates, as much as 80% of the women in Cambodia report never having a cervical swab performed during their lifetime. Mammography is largely unavailable.
The lack of screening means that most cancers are stage 3 or 4 at diagnosis. Due to the late stage of diagnosis, the mortality rate of cervical cancer is over 50%. The burden of treating late stage cancers is high and outcomes are poor.
